Abstract:
Manitoba fires dated from 1928 to 2016. Fire perimeters have been captured using a variety of sources. Older fires were digitized off paper maps, some of which were incomplete (e.g. some apparent 1929 fires ending at township lines). Additionally, some fires have been adjusted to align with older township-range forest inventories to allow for inventory updates.The original fire boundaries as captured by the Manitoba Fire Program are available at <http://www.gov.mb.ca/conservation/fire/Fire-Maps/index.html>.

    This dataset represents Manitoba fires from 1928 to 2016. Fire perimeters dated from 1928-1975 were digitized off of 1:250,000 NTS mapsheets. In June 2010, the fire perimeters dated from 1928-1975 within NTS mapsheets 52l, 52m and 53d along the Manitoba/Ontario border were adjusted. Also, fire perimeters dated in 2004 were edited. Fire perimeters dated from 1976-2002 were digitized off of 1:63360 scale maps (1 inch = 1 mile). Fire perimeters dated from 2003 were captured using a variety of different approaches including: 1. digitized off of 1:63360 scale maps (1 inch = 1 mile); 2. MODIS satellite mapping; and 3. GPS mapping
