The intention is to show the boundaries of all Special Conservation Areas (SCA) in Manitoba, as designated by the Designation of Wildlife Lands Regulation (171/2001) under The Wildlife Act (C.C.S.M. c. W130). Special Conservation Areas are designated to conserve and protect particular species and habitats throughout the province. The Use of Wildlife Lands Regulation (77/99) determines what activities are prohibited within each Special Conservation Area.
Boundaries are drawn based on CAD files from the official Director of Surveys Plan stated in the regulation.

Special Conservation Area (SCA) boundaries were originally part of an administrative boundaries dataset containing vector representations and names of various administrative regions and index grids for the Province of Manitoba. The dataset was digitized from 1:250 000 official mylar survey maps and published in August 2000. SCA boundaries were edited in 2019 based on the Director of Surveys (D of S) Plan CAD files stated in the Designation of Wildlife Lands Regulation (171/2001) under The Wildlife Act (C.C.S.M. c. W130).
